We Road Force Balance Every Tire

Most shops spin your wheel in the air, add a few weights, and call it balanced. That only corrects weight distribution. It cannot see whether the tire is actually round under load, whether the wheel is bent, or whether the tire has a stiff spot in its belts.

A road force balancer presses a loaded roller against the spinning tire with roughly 1,200 to 1,400 pounds of pressure — simulating the weight of your car on the road — and measures how evenly the tire pushes back. It is the difference between "the weights are even" and "this wheel will actually roll smooth at 70 mph."

Why it matters to you

If your car has ever come back from a tire shop still vibrating after a "balance," this is why. Standard balancing physically cannot detect the problem. Road force can — and it usually finds a fix that doesn't involve buying another tire.

Standard Balance

What most shops do
  • Spins the wheel unloaded, in free air
  • Measures weight distribution only
  • Adds weights to offset heavy spots
  • Cannot detect a bent or out-of-round wheel
  • Cannot detect stiff spots or belt flaws in the tire
  • If it still shakes, the usual answer is "buy a new tire"
What we do

Road Force Balance

On every tire — no upcharge
  • Loads the tire against a roller to simulate real road pressure
  • Measures weight distribution and road force variation
  • Separates a tire problem from a wheel problem
  • Identifies bent wheels and out-of-round conditions
  • Match-mounts the tire's high spot to the wheel's low spot to cancel runout
  • Exhausts every correction before recommending a replacement

Road force variation

The tire pushes back against the road with uneven force as it rotates — invisible to a standard spin balancer.

Bent or out-of-round wheels

A wheel that isn't perfectly round or wobbles laterally will never ride smooth, no matter how well the tire is balanced.

Improper bead seating

A tire not seated evenly against the rim mimics a balance problem. We find it and reseat it instead of guessing.

Belt and construction flaws

Stiff spots inside the tire's belt package cause vibration even on a brand-new tire that looks perfect.

Poor tire-to-wheel pairing

A tire and wheel can each be within spec alone but stack up badly together. Match mounting fixes it at no cost.

A genuinely bad tire

Occasionally a tire is beyond correction. Knowing that with data — instead of trial and error — saves you money and time.

Road force matters most on the setups that hide nothing: new tires, larger-diameter wheels, and low-profile tires with short, stiff sidewalls that transmit every flaw straight into the cabin. We do it on every tire regardless — because finding out later costs you a second appointment.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about mobile tire service in Northern Virginia.

What is road force balancing, and why does it matter?
A standard balance spins your wheel in free air and only measures weight distribution. A road force balancer presses a loaded roller against the spinning tire with roughly 1,200 to 1,400 pounds of pressure, simulating your car's weight on the road, and measures how evenly the tire pushes back. That extra measurement catches problems a standard balance physically cannot see — a bent wheel, an out-of-round tire, a stiff spot in the belts, or a bad bead seat. It's the reason a car can come back from a shop "balanced" and still vibrate at highway speed.
Do you charge extra for road force balancing?
No. Every tire we mount or balance is road force balanced at no additional charge. Many shops treat it as a premium add-on or don't offer it at all. We'd rather find a wheel or tire problem on the first visit than have you book a second appointment for a vibration we could have caught.
My car still shakes after a balance somewhere else. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes — and this is exactly what road force is built for. A persistent vibration after a standard balance almost always means the problem isn't weight distribution. It's typically radial force variation, wheel runout, or a poor tire-to-wheel pairing. We can measure which one it is, then match-mount the tire's high spot to the wheel's low spot to cancel the runout out. That fix costs nothing extra and often solves a vibration another shop told you required a new tire.
Which vehicles benefit most from road force balancing?
Any vehicle benefits, but it matters most on setups with little margin for error: larger-diameter wheels, low-profile tires with short stiff sidewalls, and performance or stiff-suspension vehicles. A short sidewall has almost no give, so any force variation transmits straight into the cabin instead of being absorbed. Brand-new tires also benefit, since no two tires are identical even out of the box.
How does mobile tire service work?
You book an appointment online, pick a date and time, and a certified TreadExpress technician drives to your location with all necessary equipment — including a tire mounting machine, wheel balancer, and torque wrench. Most services are completed in under 60 minutes. No shop visit, no waiting rooms, no hassle.
What areas of Northern Virginia do you serve?
We serve all of Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg region including Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Woodbridge, Manassas, Dumfries, Gainesville, Culpeper, and surrounding communities. Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call and we'll let you know.
Do I need to have my own tires, or can I order through you?
Both options work. You can shop our full tire catalog directly on this website — we'll bring the tires and install them. Or if you've already bought tires elsewhere, we'll come mount and balance them on-site. Either way, we come to you.
How much does mobile tire service cost?
Tire installation starts at $45 per tire for customer-supplied tires. Rotation and balancing starts at $85. Flat tire repair starts at $75. Prices may vary slightly depending on vehicle type and location. All pricing is upfront — no surprises.
Is mobile tire service more expensive than a traditional shop?
Our prices are competitive with traditional tire shops. And when you factor in the time you save — no driving across town, no sitting in a waiting room, no lost productivity — most customers consider it a significantly better value overall.
What are your hours?
We operate Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time. You can book appointments online 24/7 and we'll confirm within one business hour.
Do I need to be present during the service?
In most cases yes, since we need access to your vehicle. However, if you can't be present we may be able to make arrangements — contact us ahead of your appointment and we'll work something out.
